About Us

 The Old Radfordians Association

Membership

The Association is open to all former pupils and staff of Mount Radford School in Exeter, Devon.

Life Membership to the Old Radfordians Association is open to all who attended the former Mount Radford School with a one off payment of £10.

Cheque’s should be made out to the Old Radfordians Association and sent to:-

Ken Potter at 43 Butts Road, Ottery St Mary. EX11 1FP.  (new Address)

The School, in St Leonard’s Road, was owned by members of the Vine family for many years and thus became unofficially known locally as The Vine School. In 1957 Mr A Greenaway became Headmaster until the School’s closure in the summer of 1967. The roll of Headmasters is:

1868-1900  F. H. Vine, M.A.

1900-1912  W. E. Vine, M.A.

1912-1957  T. E. Vine, M.A.

1957-1967  A. Greenaway, M.A.

Since the School closed, the War Memorial Plaques have been safely lodged in St. Leonard’s Church.

Thanks to the Association, Old Radfordians have been able to keep in touch with each other and to meet in the spring of each year for the Annual Reunion Dinner. The first Dinner took place in 1928 and, preceded by the Annual General Meeting at 6 p.m,

‘In the current circumstances the ORA Reunion Dinner and AGM to be held on Saturday 25th April 2020 is postponed.

We will keep the situation under review and hopefully re-arrange the Reunion & AGM later in the year; to be decided by the Committee at an emergency meeting when the current situation has been resolved

Please take care and hope you and your family are in the best of health and being supported

Can you inform any fellow ORA Member of this decision.

I will keep you informed”

The Membership Directory is up-dated as fresh information. If you are searching for a former Mount Radford School pupil and wish to check if we have his details or an Old Radfordian may know of his whereabouts, please contact Dave Collings  –  jumperrma@aol.com  or his mobile 0752 858 3533.

Financing

The financing of the Old Radfordians Association is derived in three ways:

  • a Life Membership subscription of just £10
  • A small premium on the Annual Dinner
  • Donations
  • MRS or Association ties. It is no longer financially viable to purchase such ties, but we will gladly accept any spare MRS/Association ties that are no longer required

While the Association does not require a large amount of money, it does need funds to pay the costs of communicating with Members a couple of times a year  – postage alone now costs over £100 a year.
